Small space to bridge the gap

Aiming to fill in the understanding gap and to bridge ‘us’ and ‘them’ in the socio-cultural context between two societies, the Myanmar Up-Close Exhibition portrays lives, hope, and dreams of our next door neighbors in the contemporary setting. The small space speaks out the unspoken stories of Burmese labor forces in Thailand – the way of their lives away from home. Through interactive activities, visitors will get to know more about the way our neighbors adapt the lifestyle to the rules of the new society and the way they rely on themselves.

The exhibition takes visitors across the invisible border line, begins from the ‘guesthouse’ where each visitor gets a key to open the mind leaving the old perception behind and welcoming new memories. With the fact that the two countries have long exchanged cultures, the exhibition portrays not only the differences but the integral parts of daily lives.

To enhance the under- standing of present by learning a piece of history, the exhibition shows two sides of the same story – the war and hero of the two ancient kingdoms. Stories which have been telling from generations in both societies need no judgment but the understanding.

Myanmar Up-Close is organized in a social context as part of the initiation into AEC. The exhibition will be at the Museum Siam until July.

Besides the exhibition, there are activities include lectures, performances, children stage of play, horoscope class and workshops. For more information and event calendar, contact Museum Siam at Tel (662) 225 2777 ext 420/421, www.museumsiam.org or facebook.com/museumsiamfan
